Just wanted to check how realistic the new OUYA console concept is. I ordered one, but building such a low priced console 50 000 times or so seems like a tall order...

It's financed by kickstarter. The way it works is that you preorder a console, if enough orders come in, they bill, build and ship, otherwise the project is abandoned. So far the have over 38k preordered consoles - so the project is a 'go'.

As this seems like a project Mr. LaMothe would know his way about, I would be interested in hearing is opinion on the chances this product actually ships.

Yes, I saw that -- seems like another openpandora thing, we will see if they actually ship a product. But, they have one thing going that most don't -- they are a group of people that funded the company themselves up to prototype, which looks like a "dev kit" to me, not a product they made.

I do have one other thing going for them they are useing a popular O.S ... plenty of developers for Android...

but then agian they will have to compet with things like the Android 4.0 mini pc, you can buy the 1.5ghz 1g ram 4g rom with WIFI for as little as $73.00... thats going to make their product a much harder sell...

Thanks for bringing up Android 4.0 mini pc.. didnt know about that. Quite a lot of features for that price.
